The family of man who was killed in a stampede of Wal-Mart shoppers on the Friday after Thanksgiving is suing the retailing giant. Also named as defendants are the shopping center where the Long Island Wal-Mart was located and the independent contractor that provided security for Wal-Mart, and which was the man's employer. The plaintiffs are alleging "carelessness, reckless negligence, wanton disregard for public safety, and gross negligence" in the "staging, conducting and advertising for sales events."
