NY personal injury case garners $27.5 million award

Read the story here by Liz Robbins in the NYT. The lede follows:
A Manhattan jury on Wednesday awarded $27.5 million to a woman who lost her left leg after a New York City Transit bus ran over her while it was turning a corner two blocks from her apartment in 2005.
A lawyer for the transit authority moved for a reduction in the award immediately following its announcement, but the judge let it stand. The transit authority is apparently planning an appeal.
